  • Flowers for baby shower decorations- Whether you’re having a morning, afternoon or night shower, flowers are an easy way to add a lot of class and color to your decor no matter the theme.  If you’re struggling to find a center piece, you can always use flowers in a vase surrounded by something from your theme such as:  fill golf tees in a large vase, place a smaller vase inside with flowers (pictured below).  If you have enough room to have a table setting for all of your guests then small vases on each of the tables is an easy way to fill the space and make it look nice.

  • Signs-  A cute way to add baby shower decorations without framing everything is to hang signs from your drink area.  I’ll typically punch a hole in either side of the colored paper and tie a bow to hold the sign together seen in the It’s a boy sign.  Another cute idea is to tie a string on the top and hang the signage vertically with clothes pins seen below.

  • Tie ribbon around your silverware and/or napkins for baby shower decorations, this offers a lot of flexibility and can be used with any baby shower theme.

  • A wreath to hang in the front door.  The mom-to-be can hang the wreath on her front door when the baby is born, or if you choose a design that suits the babies room, she can hang it on the babies door.

  • Food Tags and/or menu are great for baby shower decorations- I tend to mix and match the menu and the food tags.  If you only use decorative food tags, it can overwhelm the table.  A nice balance is to use a framed menu for the core buffet items and food tags for appetisers or to offer more detailed information such as different types of cheeses or jams.

  • Decorative straws is an easy way to add color to any party for baby shower decorations.  You can purchase these adorable straws at most craft stores or online.  A couple examples below:  the far left is just using the decorative straws you can purchase at most crafts and/or party stores.  Another option is to print out labels and glue them on (featured in the far right) or the most time consuming is to cut out colored paper and glue an It’s a Boy or It’s a Girl onto the colored paper.

  • Baby Clothess Line – This is done at a lot of showers and can come off really cute, not to mention the mom-to-be loves getting the extra clothes.  All you need are baby clothes, some twine or string and clothes pins.  A few ways I’ve seen this done.
    •  Purchase a small amount of higher end clothes and have just one or two clothes line strategically placed: above the fireplace, next to the food table, in the entry, above the front door.
    • Personally, I also like to include the theme of the shower by printing out a background tiled image and then print out (different fonts for every word is a cute twist) “Babies First Plaid” (for babies first paid theme) or ”Ahoy, it’s a boy” (for nautical theme) and have that run on a string above.

  • Baby Picture of the Mom & Dad to be - Purchase some cute frames that fit the decor and fill them with a baby pictures of the mom and dad to be.  This usually works well if you have the same number of pictures of each parent and they are the same size.
    • You can print out a morphed picture of mom and dad to be and add it to the picture table framed.  Depending on what morphing site you use, it’ll probably look nothing like the baby but it’s a fun idea seen in the middle pictures below.

  • Origami – If you’re on a budget Origami is a great way to save money and have a classy cute decor.  For instance, if you don’t want to purchase food tag holders to fit your theme and you don’t have any on hand, take a colored piece of origami paper and fold it in ½ then fold it in ½ again the fold up the two bottom sides and you have a cute food tag holder that fits your colors/theme for almost no money.  I also used origami boats for a nautical themed shower.

  •  Food items that double as decor are key if you’re in the city and have a small place or you simply don’t want to spend that much on decor.  See our baby shower food section for more ideas.

Pinterest is amazing if you’re looking for quick food ideas for themed showers.

  • Diaper cake – I don’t typically do diaper cakes but I’ve been to a number of showers where they do and look very cute.  Mom’s like them because they get diapers which are always useful and typically additional items as decor.  It’s very easy to do, simply roll diapers and use a little scotch tape to keep them rolled (it’s easier to use glue but mom to be cant reuse them).  Once you have enough diapers rolled, simply tie or glue a ribbon around them in different tiers.  Finally decorate.
